...About the Artist...Barbara Bayer...

Barbara received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from East Carolina University. Her professional career began as a Graphic Designer at World Headquarters for RJR Nabisco, where she created print media for international promotions. It was there, she and new husband Robert...decided to go coastal!

"I've always found inspiration from the sheer joy and love of being in a coastal environment.

The sounds, smells, sights and energy summon up my creative enthusiasm. Of course, those laid back, lazy days always entertain me with thoughts of new subjects to explore.

As the creative process unfolds, time seems to fade as I lose myself in shape, texture, patterns and color...so when someone poses the 'how long did it take to create' query; well...'It takes as long as it takes!'

With a sense of 'being there' and a touch of whimsy, I hope the viewer enjoys a fun experience."

Upon relocating to Hawaii, she began designing for Aloha and RSVP magazines in Honolulu, and freelancing for various advertising agencies. While diving the reefs in Kaneohe Bay where they lived, Barbara was nominated for Hawaii's coveted "Pele Award" for excellence in publication layout design, and was contracted to create a series of trade brochures promoting Hawaii's natural resources for the Department of Agriculture.

After moving to the Florida Keys and up the coastline, Barbara's dynamic watercolor, "Jazz", was selected for the Florida Watercolor Society's Annual Show. She also created the winning designs for Mount Dora's 20th Annual Arts Festival and 20th Annual Bicycle Festival Posters, while designing packaging for a complete line of Florida themed gourmet pasta shapes!

Inspired by living next to Honeymoon Island State Park, Barbara’s coastal watercolors flourished! As an award winning artist, Barbara has participated in numerous juried shows and competitions. Her lighthearted vibrant watercolors reflect the pleasures of living on the coast and have been exhibited in galleries throughout Florida and North Carolina.

Combining her fine art and design expertise, Barbara creates commissioned watercolors for new product lines from Downeast Concepts and Cape Shore in addition to having created over sixty five original artworks for Idea Art!

Last year she finished designing a new, sixteen product, giftware collection for Cape Shore. Her "Sea Turtle Reef" collection is featured in their 2009/2010 catalogs and for Christmas, six tree ornaments which include humorous flamingos, dolphins, fish...and of course...a sea turtle. Look this year for her new Cape Shore line..."Ocean's Bounty"... Fourteen giftware products featuring a colorful, shoreside shell collection!

Barbara and Robert reside in Carolina Beach, where one of her watercolors, "Park N Lights" was selected for Pleasure Island's Annual "Island of Lights" 2006 Christmas Card. In addition to contributing her artwork to events for the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project... Last summer, Barbara celebrated her "Sun & Sea Watercolors Exhibition" that was on display in the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher!

Robert received his Master of Arts in Audio-Visual and Bachelor of Technology at Appalachian State University with an AAS in Architecture from Forsyth Technical Institute. Upon graduation from ASU, Robert became Technical Director of Graphics/SE, the Southeast's first computer graphics firm. At Graphics/SE, he was instrumental in marketing General Electric's first Genigraphics System.

As owner of Aesthetics, a media production and product photography studio, Robert expanded his operation by personally producing and staging multi-image presentations worldwide for RJ Reynolds Industries. As a frequent traveler, he enjoyed many sojourns to the Florida Keys. It was on one of his returns to Winston Salem, when he met and wed Barbara. It was time to go coastal!

While Barbara and he were living in Kaneohe, Hawaii, Robert continued to produce and stage corporate annual meetings on Oahu and Kauai. Upon returning to the Keys, he began producing shows on both coasts of Florida while developing new venues in graphic design and product packaging.

His design skills have honed Corporate ID programs for various Florida corporations. Robert's successful packaging designs for HydroTools' original product lines positioned him as Creative Director for their parent company, Leisure Bay Industries. Later, as Creative Director for Waterwise, Robert revamped the corporation's existing identity package to encompass new product logos and packaging, educational and marketing publications including developing the firm's first internet presence.

On a lighter side...Robert created the winning poster design for Mount Dora's 9th Annual Antique Boat Festival, the Peninsula Yacht Club's Design Award for their Annual Regatta in Lake Norman and just won Pleasure Island's 2008 Photography Contest! His winning photo graces the cover for the Island's 2009 Visitor's Guide while another of his photos is the cover of Pleasure Island's 2009 "Summer Guide".

Barbara and Robert’s creative artworks have been used in annual reports, packaging and print advertising, product literature, national periodicals, culinary and historical books, chamber of commerce brochures, greeting cards and new product development that includes a wide variety of items for the giftware industry. Over one hundred of Barbara's artworks are now available as digital images available for licensing.
